The 1951 National Stock Car season was the second season of professional stock car racing in the United States. The season consisted of 22 races, beginning with the 6th running of The Icebreaker at Thompson and ending at Riverside. Cameron Yost repeated as the driver's champion, and Hudson won the first Manufacturer's Championship.
Following a successful 1950 campaign, the National Stock Car Series expanded the schedule to accommodate growing interest in the series outside of the Northeast. The additional races included trips to Tennessee, Michigan, Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina for the first time, as well as a stop at the newly-constructed Waterford Speedbowl. Series founder Elliott Crawford announced that in addition to a driver's championship, the series would be awarding championships for car owners and manufacturers for the first time.
The biggest news story during the winter offseason, however, was Hudson, who became the first manufacturer to officially fund racing teams in the series after the success of the 1951 Hornet at the end of 1950. Hudson backed Howard Joyce and Lucky Hornick's teams with direct financial support and equipment.
