Aydin Park, also known as the Aydin International Racing Circuit and as the Aydin Otodrom, is a motor racing venue located in Didim, a resort town on the Aegean Sea roughly 160km south of Izmir. The track opened on September 15, 2006, and currently hosts the WSCC Santander Grand Prix of Turkey, a race it has hosted since 2008.

History[edit | edit source]

The idea for a world-class racing circuit on the shores of the Aegean sea originated in the late 1990's, as Turkish citizens and British vacationers began buying homes in and around Didim as tourism in the area flourished. The racing facility was formally announced in 2003, and broke ground on October 12, 2004. Seeking to preserve as much of the natural terrain as possible the track developed an unusual profile for an international road racing venue, with several long straights accented by tight corners and quick elevation changes. In 2007, the course officially received top-level certification for motor racing, the second such venue in Turkey to do so. Later that same year, it was announced that the track would take over as the host of the World Stock Car Championship Grand Prix of Turkey, which was then held at the oval circuit in Istanbul.
