Charles Truman "Chuck" Wilder (18 July 1916 - 6 September 1982) was an American stock car driver and race promoter who competed in the National Stock Car Series during the early 1950's. He is considered one of the pioneers of stock car racing.

Racing Career[edit | edit source]

Wilder began his racing career as a bootlegger during the Great Depression, and began racing in North Carolina in 1939. He helped open Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in 1949, and was the track's primary promoter before taking ownership of the facility in 1977 with his son, Martin.

Personal Life[edit | edit source]

Wilder had one son, Martin, who raced sporadically throughout the 1960's, and two daughters.

Wilder died of a stroke in Boston on September 6, 1982.
