In motorsports, a crown jewel event is a race of notable prestige and influence on the series. Crown jewel events are highly regarded by series historians, and form a significant part of the history of the sport.

WSCC[edit | edit source]

The World Stock Car Championship has four crown jewel events; these races are notable for being double-points events to highlight the prestige associated with winning them. Winning all of these races constitutes winning the WSCC Grand Slam; no driver has ever won all four in one season, but several have won them over the course of their career.

The Icebreaker[edit | edit source]

Main article: The Icebreaker

The Icebreaker Sweepstakes, commonly known as The Icebreaker, is regarded as by far the most prestigious and important event on the series calendar, and carries the largest purse on the schedule. The event is the oldest event on the schedule, having been run every season since 1950; in fact, the race predates championship stock car racing, having first been run in 1946. The race has been the season opener since 1981; it was previously the season opener from 1950 through 1959.
