The European Stock Car Championship, colloquially known as Eurocup, is a second-tier stock car racing series based in Europe and the Mediterranean organized by the World Stock Car Association. The championship launched in 1992, and was bought by the World Stock Car Championship prior to the 1996 season. The series name was chosen as a tribute to the Eurocup Championship of the early 1980's which saw the rise of several prominent stock car racing stars out of the continent.

Paris GP[edit | edit source]

The Paris GP is Eurocup's signature event, taking place as part of Bastille Day festivities each year on July 14. The race takes place on the streets of Paris along the Seine from the Place de la Concorde to the Arc de Triomphe; it crosses both the Pont Alexandre II and Pont de la Concorde to race along the both sides of the river. The circuit was originally proposed as a new venue for the Formula A French Grand Prix, but the idea was scrapped in favor of a location more centrally located between Paris and Lyon. The plans were revived as part of the launch of the new Eurocup series in 1992, with the Paris GP slated to be the marquee event.

The race has been held every year since its inception with the exception of 2020, as the COVID-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of the event for the first time.
