A national stock car series, also known as an SC-4 series, is the designation given to regional stock car racing championships that constitute the first step on the WSCC Global Pathway. Despite their designation as national series SC-4 championships may encompass several countries, or may be confined to a limited geographic area of another country. These series are designed to support drivers entering international stock car racing as their first step into stock cars after graduating from midgets, sprint cars, or karting.

SC-4 was created as a way to bridge the gap between local track racing such as karting or midgets and international series at the SC-3 level. In some countries, however, the SC-4 series is also the top-level of stock car racing, and has been an attractive option for established popular racers to run in front of their home crowds.

SC-4 is a spec series; manufacturers must meet strict compliance with technical and commercial regulations for both engines and chassis to ensure that one car is not superior to the other. The series uses inexpensive I-4 engines with a maximum horsepower of 230; both turbocharged and naturally aspirated engines are used. The annual cost to run in the series is roughly $65,000, with the stated goal being to get the cost under $50,000.

Approved Manufacturers[edit | edit source]

To be eligible for SC-4 series, the vehicle must meet specific requirements:

  • The vehicle represented must be of a subcompact to midsize vehicle available for public sale in the country it will race in.
  • Engine output is capped at 230 horsepower; engines must last for at least 7,500 km, and engine costs are capped at $7,500. Only four-cylinder engines are allowed, and both naturally aspirated and turbocharged engines can be used.
  • Vehicles must conform to strict chassis guidelines, including use of mandated equipment.
