Piper Dawn Benjamin (born 6 March 1998) is an American racing driver currently competing in the World Stock Car Championship for Hasegawa Autosport.
Prior to competing in the World Stock Car Championship, Benjamin won three straight SC-4 United States East Championships (2013 - 2015), and consecutive SC-4 United States Central (2014, 2015) and West Championships (2014, 2015).
Racing Career[edit | edit source]
SC-4 Championship Series (2013 - 2015)[edit | edit source]
Benjamin took part in the inaugural SC-4 United States East Championship in 2013, running for Deacon Anderson Motorsports. She put on a dominant performance; despite a strong start by Macie Riggs, Benjamin was able to win the championship by 144 points, thanks to 12 podium finishes and finishing every race in the top 10.
Benjamin would enter all three United States Championships in 2014. She successfully defended her East series title, continuing her record run of top-ten finishes (42 consecutive) and amassing eight wins. The 2014 season was notable as the first in stock car racing history to have four women in the top four in standings. Benjamin would couple her victory in the East series by winning the Central division and West division championships.
2015 would be a repeat of 2014; Benjamin would run all three SC-4 United States series, and defended her championship in each. Her streak of top ten finishes came to an end during the ninth race of the Central division; in what would have been her 121st consecutive top ten, she was running eighth and experienced a flat tire on the final lap, ultimately dropping her to twelfth.

Personal Life[edit | edit source]
Benjamin was born on March 6, 1998 in Silver Springs, Maryland. Her father, Martin, is a television executive, and her mother, Veronica is a hedge fund manager. She has two younger brothers, John (born 2001), and Alex (born 2003). Benjamin revealed that her name was taken from Pink Floyd's debut album, Piper at the Gates of Dawn; she went on to say that she's since become a "huge fan of Pink Floyd" after listening to it.
Benjamin is close friends with SC-4 teammate Deja Wilson; the two have been roommates for several years, and Wilson has stated that "Piper is as much a part of my family as my brothers and sister; she was one of the only people to make me, a black girl from south Philly, feel welcome in stock car racing." Benjamin and Wilson currently share an apartment in Philadelphia's Callow Hill neighborhood.
Benjamin is noted for being fiercely competitive; Wilson once commented that the pair "have a list of board games Piper is banned from playing. We just hit the second page." This was seen most prominently in racing circles in 2014 and 2015; Benjamin ran all three SC-4 series (a total of 63 races and and 72 races, respectively), dominating all three championships each year.
