The WSCA Super License is a driver's qualification allowing the holder to compete in the World Stock Car Championship.
Requirements[edit | edit source]
Super License[edit | edit source]
To qualify for a WSCA Super License, an applicant must meet the following requirements as laid out by the WSCA Handbook's Section C:
- Minimum age: 18 years
- Existing holder of an international racing license
- Holder of a full, valid road-car driving license for the country listed as the driver's nationality. The license can not have been suspended, revoked, or in any way prevent the holder from driving on public roads.
- Pass a knowledge test on WSCC regulations
- Accumulated 50 points over four seasons in any combination of the series listed in Section C
- Completed at least 75% of each of three full seasons in any of the series listed in Section C.
Provided that a driver has previously held a Super License, they will not need to meet the requirements again. A driver who held a valid license for the previous four years is eligible for renewal, and a driver who previously held a license but has not done so in the previous four years is eligible for a new license pending the completion of 300km on a road course and 300 miles on an oval at race speed in a series-eligible stock car. These tests must individually take place over no more than two days each and must be witnessed by either a certified WSCA authority or as part of an WSCC session.
As of 2019, the Section C Super License Points are awarded according to the table below.

SC-4 Series |
For a series to award WSCA Super License points, a season must consist of at least seven events, taking place at a minimum of four courses. Alternative circuit configurations (such as the roval configuration at Charlotte Motor Speedway) will count as separate courses. Series must also have twelve drivers per event and eighteen across a season to award full points. Series which have between 12 and 17 drivers over the course of a season will award 50% points.
Competitors may earn points in up to two series per calendar year (SC-4 competitors may earn points in up to three); however, drivers who have earned their Super License are forbidden from regular competition in lower-tier series of the same discipline, expect for during special events like the Gentleman Jack 400. The provision against competing in lower series did not apply to WSCC Independent's Trophy drivers between 2003 and 2016, as their schedule in the top series was limited to four races, plus the crown jewels.
Special Event and Reserve Driver Super Licenses[edit | edit source]
Reserve Drivers may hold a separate license in lieu of a Super License; the Reserve Driver License only authorizes the driver to race in the four crown jewels, testing sessions, and free practice sessions. The driver must meet the following criteria to hold a Reserve Driver License:
- Minimum age: 18
- Existing holder of an international racing license
- Accumulate 30 Super License points over the previous two years, OR 20 points and complete rookie testing prior to each crown jewel
Drivers wishing to compete in one of the four crown jewels, but who do not qualify for a standard Super License and are not signed to a chartered team as a reserve driver, may instead apply for a temporary super license that expires after one month.
Renewal[edit | edit source]
Super Licenses are issued on an annual calendar year basis and must be renewed at the end of each year. The deadline to submit renewal is December 7.
Probation[edit | edit source]
The WSCA issues each license subject to 12 months of mandatory probation after the first issue; this applies to both licenses, and authorizes the WSCA to review and withdraw the Super License if the holder fails to meet the standards required to hold one.
Costs[edit | edit source]
There are two costs to obtaining the WSCA Super License:
- An annual base fee of $10,000 (€9,044)
- A $20-per-point fee, based on the previous years' standings
Nationality[edit | edit source]
The nationality that appears on a drivers' racing license is the same one that appears on a driver's passport. This is not necessarily the same as the country issuing the license; a Canadian living in Ireland can race with an Irish license, but would still have Canadian nationality. Drivers with multiple citizenship can choose their official nationality.
