Francis Sean "Frank" Stafford is an American racing driver currently competing in the World Stock Car Championship for Ray Stafford Motorsports. Stafford is a four-time series champion, a feat that only one other driver (Lauren Savage, a five-time champion) has accomplished. Stafford's 82 career wins have him second on the all-time list, and he is widely regarded as one of the greatest drivers in the history of the sport.

Stafford is a second-generation driver. His father, Ray Stafford, was the winner of the inaugural Donington Grand Prix and was himself a three-time series champion; Ray established his team, Ray Stafford Motorsports, in 1960. Stafford's sons are both in motorsports; Andrew currently races for Red Bull Development in the WSCC, and Ricky races in the ASCT. Frank's younger brother, Paul Stafford, ran several races in the WSCC before an accident at Atlanta took him out of the car permanently.

Early Life and Career[edit | edit source]

Stafford was born in Marine Park, a neighborhood of Brooklyn in New York City. He is the son of WSCC champion Ray and Patricia Stafford (née MacArthur), and the older brother of Paul and Claire Stafford. He attended Brooklyn College Academy and later attended Kingsborough College, where he earned an associate degree in Maritime Technology.

Stafford began racing at local short tracks in the tri-state area at 16. He entered the local street stock races with a 1983 Buick Skylark owned by his father. After honing his skills and winning the street stock championships at Flemington and Riverhead, he moved on to the Atlantic Championship in 1991. He would win the Atlantic Championship three straight years before moving to the WSCC in 1994.

Personal Life[edit | edit source]

Stafford lives in Midwood, a neighborhood in Brooklyn close to his childhood home in Marine Park. Stafford's home is located in the area known locally as Midwood Manor. He is a passionate fan of the New York Giants and the New York Mets, as well as the Brooklyn Nets; he is also a fan of the minor-league Brooklyn Cyclones, having attended their first game in 2001.

Stafford and his wife April (née Summers) met during their sophomore year of high school and began dating shortly after. They married shortly after their graduation in 1992. April completed her degree in graphic design in 1996, shortly after finding out she was pregnant with the couple's oldest son, Andrew. They have three more children: Ricky (born 1998), Diana (born 2001) and Jenna (born 2004). April currently works as a freelance designer in Brooklyn, helping local businesses design their logos and build advertising print advertisements. April has been seen at virtually every race since 1994; the only exceptions were the races she missed to give birth to the couple's children.
