North Wilkesboro Speedway is a short track that held races in the World Stock Car Championship from 1951 until 2009. The track operated from 1949 until its closure in 2011; it had previously face a closure threat in 1996 but was saved when Tyson Farms bought the Speedway; it sold its interest to a private investment firm in 2001. The track operated until the end of the 2011 racing season, after which it closed. Several revival attempts have occurred, with efforts spearheaded by Jay Orlov proving the most successful; Orlov's "Ghost Tracks" series on Hulu was credited as key with reviving interest in the speedway. The track is currently undergoing renovations and is slated to tentatively reopen in 2023.
