George Thompson (born 18 May 1935) is a retired former World Stock Car Championship crew chief, engine builder, and a co-founder of Thompson Brothers Racing. Thompson is considered the innovator of the modern pit stop, his pit crew being the first to record sub-25, sub-20, and sub-16 second stops in stock car racing history. He won the Indianapolis 500 seven times as a crew chief between 1963 and 1978.
