Monroe County Fairgrounds (also known as Rochester Speedway from 1956 to 1970) was a half-mile dirt oval on the Monroe County Fairgrounds in Rochester, New York.

History[edit | edit source]

The speedway was first built in 1950 as part of an exhibition on the Monroe County Fairgrounds. The first races were held in August, and included a visit from the National Stock Car Series.

The series would visit the track annually until 1970, when dirt tracks were removed from the schedule as part of a series of reforms; the race was always held in conjunction with the local county fair. By 1970, stock car racing had fallen out of favor at the fair, and the track was quietly closed in 1973.

Notable Races[edit | edit source]

  • 1950 - 7th race of the National Stock Car Series, first career victory for Cameron Yost.
