The WSCC Manufacturer's Championship is awarded to the most successful manufacturer over the course of a given season, as determined by a points system based on race results. It has been awarded every season since 1951, when it was first awarded to Hudson.
Different make/model combinations are considered to be different entrants in the manufacturer's championship. The first format consisted of awarding points to each car that finished within the top ten on a 10-1 scale (1st would receive 10 points, 2nd 9, and so on); a manufacturer could therefore score up to 55 points in a single event if it swept the top ten. From 1970 until 2009, the top five placing manufacturers would score points on a 10-6-4-2-1 scale. In 2010, the format was tweaked so that the top five manufacturers would receive the same number of points as its highest placing car.

Representation[edit | edit source]
While teams received little initial direct support from manufacturers in the first few seasons, by the 1960's teams were forming partnerships with manufacturers to provide factory and engineering support. While American brands dominated the early portion of the sport's history (due in large part to limited competition from foreign rivals), by the end of the 1970's the series' international profile had attracted brands like Toyota and BMW.
